What Causes Dark Circles??
Before we get to the part on how to treat dark circles, let us find out what are causes due to which we all get those baggy dark circles under the eyes.
1. Age: Aging is one of the common causes for the appearance of the dark circles under your eyes, that is because when you get older, the skin becomes thinner, and also you lose fat and collagen which is required to retain the elasticity of the skin. As the skin gets thinner, this causes the dark blood vessels beneath the skin to become more visible causing the area under the eyes to become dark.
2. Fatigue: Dark circles are also caused by reasons like lack of sleep (insomnia), oversleeping, or physical and mental exertion. Insomnia i.e lack of sleep can also make your eyes look puffy and make the skin dark, dull, and pale. Dark circles can also be more visible due to the shadows cast by the puffy eyelids caused due to these problems.
3. Straining the eyes: Excessive use of computers, phones, and watching television can also cause dark circles as it leads to the enlargement of blood vessels around the eyes.
4. Dehydration: Dehydration is also one of the common causes of dark circles and puffy under the eye. Lack of proper intake of water can lead to dehydration which makes your skin under the eyes look dull and pale and also make the eyes look sunken.
5. Genetics: Sometimes genetics is also the reason why you may develop dark circles under your eyes. Family history of dark circles may also indicate that you might get them later in life or can be seen in childhood as well and then may or may not worsen as you age.
6. Stress: People who are stressed due to many days to day issues have problem sleeping which leads to dark circles under the eyes.
7. Allergies: Allergic reactions make your body release histamines that dilate the blood vessels, making them more visible on the skin, leading to the appearance of dark circles under the eye area. Allergies can be caused by makeup, hair dye, or some of the eye drop or face creams.
